The Irish, who had won 10 straight Big East titles on the water, took second place during their first season in the ACC. The rowers also tied a program-high with a ninth-place finish in the NCAA regatta in June. 3. Softball (41-13) — Notre Dame came within one base hit of upsetting No. 2 UCLA in its NCAA re- gional this year. The Irish also made it to the ACC title game before falling to No. 4 Florida State. Senior pitcher Laura Winter finished her career with a program-high 1,028 strikeouts. 4. Track & Field — On the strength of first-place finishes from Jade Barber (100-meter hurdles) and the 4x400-meter relay team, the Irish women finished second to Florida State in their first ACC Cham- pionships. Senior Alexa Aragon set a Notre Dame record in the 3,000-meter steeplechase at the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore. Senior Michelle Brown and sophomore Margaret Bamgbose both beat the previous school record in the 400-meter race at the same event. 5. Tennis (18-10) — The Irish ended their regular season on a seven-game winning streak (including five straight sweeps). They upset Northwestern in the NCAA Tournament to reach the Sweet 16 before losing to No. 2 Alabama. Senior Britney Sanders and sophomore Quinn Gleason also reached the round of 16 in the national doubles tournament. — Dan Murphy Senior guard Kayla McBride helped lead the Irish to a school-record 37 consecutive victories and their fourth consecutive Final Four appearance.
