BY TOM LOY It was a close battle between Notre Dame and Michigan State for New Lenox (Ill.) Providence Catholic four- star wide receiver Miles Boykin, but the Irish staff got its man in the end. The 6-4, 220-pounder chose to play for Notre Dame on July 7 over offers from the Spartans, Florida, Michigan, Missouri, Ohio State, Oregon and many others. "It just feels like home there," Boykin said regarding Notre Dame. "I have been there a lot, and I knew that was the place I wanted to be. The coaching staff is great, and I really get along well with the players. "The distance from home is great, too. It's not too far from home and my friends and family can come see me play. That's important to me. I want them to be there with me and for them to all enjoy this experience with me. "I also already have a relationship with the players on the team, and I know they are guys that I'll get along with really well. I've known [2014 Notre Dame tight end signee] Nic Weishar for a long time, and he's helped me out with Notre Dame. "I wasn't always the biggest Notre Dame fan growing up, but he helped me see the light and opened my eyes to all the positives that attending Notre Dame would bring to me." Not only wasn't Boykin a fan of the Irish growing up — he held a hatred for the football program in South Bend, which he discussed with 247Sports na- tional director of recruiting Steve Wilt- fong. "I had to be one of those people that hated Notre Dame the most," Boykin said. "Just because everyone around here loved them so much, so I hated them. I told people don't even bring them up. "As soon as I took my first visit, for the BYU game [on Nov. 23, 2013], I saw why everyone loves it.
