◆ Aug. 26, 1995 — Virginia played
in front of the second-largest crowd in
school history when it traveled to The Big
House and lost 18-17 to Michigan in front
of 101,444 fans. The squads, who played
in the Pigskin Classic, were both nationally
ranked — the Cavs at No. 17, while the
Wolverines checked in at No. 14.
◆ Aug. 30, 2003 — Al Groh's No. 18
Cavaliers recorded the first August win in
school history on the gridiron with a 27-0
victory over Duke at home. Virginia en-
joyed its second such win last year when
it beat BYU 19-16 on Aug. 31. This year,
UVa opens the season on Aug. 30 against
UCLA.
