MICHIGAN FOOTBALL night game is good and healthy for our guys, getting ready for people. We're excited about that. "They want to play in front of peo- ple, so let's have them play in front of people. With the mindset they can have, for night game purposes, they'll at least be in the stadium a little bit before then." Michigan already has three night games scheduled on the season. The Wolverines play Notre Dame under the lights in South Bend Sept. 6. They compete against Rutgers in a 7 p.m. contest Oct. 4 in Piscataway, N.J. The very next week, they host Penn State in a 7 p.m. game at Michigan Sta- dium. DELANO HILL MISSING TIME FOLLOWING SUMMER INJURY Michigan head coach Brady Hoke confirmed rumors about an injury to sophomore safety Delano Hill, not- ing the second-year Wolverine out of Detroit Cass Tech has a broken jaw. Hill suffered the injury in a late-sum- mer workout before fall camp began. "He could be ready for Appala- chian State," Hoke said. "He's do- ing some alternate conditioning right now. It's too early to determine where he'll be. "He's running, he's lifting. He's doing all of that. We're just not go- ing to put him in there where he's got a chance of having contact or a collision." Hill has been in a fierce battle for the starting job at the strong safety spot. He enjoyed a noteworthy spring practice, and was one of the top con- tenders for a job alongside projected starting free safety Jarrod Wilson. In Hill's absence, a number of Wol- verines are battling for spots in the middle of the Michigan secondary. "Brandon Watson has more oppor- tunity now," Hoke said. "Dymonte [Thomas], Jeremy Clark, Jarrod Wil- son and Brandon are taking most of the reps right now. A.J. Pearson, a guy who walked on from Atlanta, is a pretty good football player. He's getting some looks in there." Hoke indicated Wilson, a junior, Hill, a sophomore safety, suffered a broken jaw during a late-summer workout before fall camp began, but he could return to action in time to play in the season opener versus Appalachian State.
