PREP PROFILES Although he's already made college commitments twice — picking Virginia Tech in the fall of his sophomore sea- son and Florida at the conclusion of his junior year — Washington (D.C.) Gon- zaga 2015 cornerback Marcus Lewis is still on the market. That's good news for Michigan, Miami (Fla.) and Oregon, which are all in the mix along with the Gators. The 6-0, 194- pound Lewis is r a n k e d a s t h e No. 8 cornerback and No. 84 overall player in the na- tion, and the sec- ond-best player in D.C. by Rivals.com. He's down to four final schools and will be patient with his decision to avoid having to make a third decommitment. "I haven't made any decisions as of yet," Lewis said. "I'll probably be tak- ing official visits to Florida, Michigan, Oregon and Miami. I'm not sure if I'll take all five. The only coaches I really talk to are from Miami, Oregon, Florida and Michigan. Those are my top four." His decommitment from UF came on the heels of an unofficial visit to Ann Arbor for the Wolverines' annual Bar- becue at The Big House recruiting event July 27. That could bode well for Michi- gan, which has moved into a leadership position in his recruitment. "With them bringing in Jabrill Pep- pers, he's obviously the number one cornerback [in the 2014 class]," Lewis said. "He was really the only guy they brought in last year. They have two se- niors that will be gone, and after that it's pretty wide open. They only have [Rivals100 four-star cornerback] Gar- rett Taylor and [Rivals250 four- star safety] Tyree Kinnel committed in my class. They are expecting us to come in and play." L e w i s h a s shown that he has the potential to step in right away. The high rank- ings confirm what he's already shown on the field, with an appearance on the All-Washington Catholic Athletic Conference first team as a junior in 2013. He also participated in the Rivals Five-Star Challenge elite camp this summer. "Lewis is helped out by having great length and that makes him tough to escape from when receivers are running routes," Rivals.com West Coast recruit- ing analyst Adam Gorney said. "He's physical and big so players are thrown off their route, and then he stays with them once they get going again." Should U-M emerge victorious over Florida, Miami and Oregon, the Wol- verines' secondary will be stocked with talent for years to come. — Tim Sullivan D.C.
