f the Penn State football team
proved anything during the past
two years, it's that you don't need a
bowl victory to have a satisfying
season. In fact, you don't need a
bowl game at all.
The 2012 season ended on a late-
November evening, but it was an aston-
ishing late-November evening, as Penn
State upset Wisconsin in overtime to
cap an 8-4 campaign that is now im-
mortalized on the façade of Beaver Sta-
dium.
In 2013, the successes were more in-
termittent, but the season ended on as
upbeat a note as anyone in the Penn
