But players aren't in for a sightseeing tour. Franklin has said the Lions will be all business when they arrive in Dublin. "What we have got to do," he said, "is to make sure our guys have an unbelievable experience at Penn State and get their degrees, and a degree that means something, so that once they graduate, they can a9ord to go on a vacation back to Ireland and enjoy the coun- tryside. But this trip really isn't for that." TRACK & FIELD Shuey smashes PSU javelin record Javelin thrower Michael Shuey claimed gold for the United States men's national team on Aug. 9 as he posted a school-record throw of 249 feet, 5 inches at the North America, Central America and Caribbean (NACAC) U-23 Championships in Kamloops, British Columbia. "This is a dream come true," said the junior from Johnsonburg, Pa. "I never thought I'd be doing anything like this a couple years ago. Now just being able to represent my country, my family and my school all at the same time and winning my competi- tion is just amazing." The previous school record of 239- 9 was set in 2007 by Allen Pettner. Penn State athletes claimed three additional medals on the final day of the competition. Kiah Seymour won the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 56.35 seconds, while Darrell Hill placed second in the shot put with a distance of 61-10 1 ⁄4 and Steve Waithe posted a second-place finish in the triple jump with a mark of 52-3 3 ⁄4.
