P
enn State continues to load up on
four-star prospects in 2015, as the
Nittany Lions added wide receiver
Irvin Charles in late July and then earned
a surprise commitment from cornerback
John Reid in early August.
Wide receiver wasn't a position of need
for Penn State heading into the summer.
The Nittany Lions had only a handful of
scholarships le< to o:er in 2015 and they
had recruited a number of strong receiving
prospects in recent months. Of the previous
9ve wideouts to commit to Penn State,
four had earned four-star rankings.
But when Charles met with James
Franklin at the Lasch Building, the two
quickly realized that this was a good 9t
both for player and program.
"I really didn't have any expectations
when I went into Coach Franklin's o;ce,"
said Charles, a Haddon9eld, N.J., resident.
"I was thinking about [a commitment],
but it de9nitely wasn't a done deal that I
was de9nitely going to commit.
"But we just had a real good talk. … When
he was telling me how he thought of me,
how he feels I 9t in with this program, that
really just made me open up my eyes and
realize that I should commit now."
Charles, who attends Paul VI High
School, was thought to be leaning toward
the Nittany Lions, but he also visited Flori-
da, South Carolina and Maryland this sum-
mer. A
