12 games, but this year, with Howle gone, there's an opportunity to make an even bigger impact. The Roxbury, N.J., native has stayed in contact with Howle, exchanging texts every once in a while with the former Penn State center, who recently joined North Carolina State's staff as a grad- uate assistant. "I've been here for three years. I've worked extremely hard to get to the place I'm at now," Mangiro said. "This opportunity is open. We've had two guys leave – John Urschel to the Ravens, and Ty Howle, who is doing good things in coaching. That opened an opportunity. It's a window for me to earn a spot, so I've been working extremely hard." Players and coaches are aware of all the talk that's swirled around them since they came together in January to begin preparing for the 2014 season. They know that the line is being talked about as a potential weak link and that they have something to prove. Of course, in Hand's view, there's al- ways something to prove, no matter what the circumstances may be head- ing into the season. "There are two levels of expectation," he said. "You have our current situa- tion, where people may say it's a ques- tion mark. And then you may have the >ip side, where let's say you have a lot of experience coming back, a great unit, and people don't have a question mark; they have an excla- mation point. "Either way, you've got something to prove, and that's how we want to approach every day, that we have something to prove. And we do. We have a lot to prove right now. Even- tually, this will transition into the other side. It's a process to go from being a question mark to an excla- mation point. But even when you're on the expectation end of the bell curve, you've still got something to prove – you've got to prove people right. Right now, we have to prove people wrong." ■ O F F E N S E S P E C I A L T E A M S D E P T H C H A R T D E F E N S E QUARTERBACK 14 Christian Hackenberg (6-4, 234, So.) 15 Michael O'Connor (6-4, 226, Fr.)
