80 ■ THE WOLFPACKER ■ BASKETBALL RECRUITING "His range on his shot has extended. He is very good and the quintessential guy in spread situations like pick and pop, and pick and roll. He'll have to get stronger and be more assertive." Comanche officially visited UConn June 23‑25, and will go to Arizona State (Aug. 29‑31), Arizona (Sept. 13‑15) and UCLA (Oct. 3‑5). The Wildcats appear to be the team to beat going into the visits. Comanche, like Ingram, will be trans‑ forming his thin body in a college weight room. "Comanche is a face‑up four man," Bossi said. "He's tall and moves pretty well, both laterally and up and down the court. He isn't a particularly explosive leaper, but he wants to face you up and shoot jump shots. He also can pass very well out of the high post." The 6‑3, 170‑pound Davis has unof‑ ficially visited NC State four times and officially visited UNLV Aug. 8‑10. He planned to take an official visit to Texas Aug. 29, and UCLA is under discus‑ sion. Michigan, Michigan State and Kentucky round out his list. All but the Wildcats have offered the Rivals.com No. 39‑ranked standout. Davis watched North Carolina at NC State Jan. 26, 2013, and Missouri at NCSU Dec. 28, 2013, and returned in late June to take part in the Wolfpack team camp for the second straight year. Davis averaged 27 points, five rebounds and four assists per game his junior year. His best position on the basketball court has been debated over the last year. Bur‑ lison projects Davis at point guard and thinks he will thrive on the college level. "I've seen Davis a bunch dating back to a year ago when he played on The Family 16s," Burlison said. "Davis is a tremen‑ dous scorer in a lot of ways with the mid‑ range game, penetration and floaters. He also has great leadership qualities, makes good decisions and tries to get everybody involved." Bossi conversely likes Davis as a shoot‑ ing guard, even though he has a point guard's body. "Because he doesn't have prototypi‑ cal shooting guard size, I think a lot of people want to take a square peg, a shoot‑ ing guard like Eric Davis, and put him in a round point guard hole," Bossi said. "I think that takes away from his game. He handles the ball well enough to be a lead guard, but he is a pure scorer. "He has to take shots to have an impact on the game." Davis' basketball IQ and craftiness help him create space on offense. "He isn't an overwhelming athlete who can just rely on going over the top or right through the middle of people whenever he wants to," Bossi said. "He reads angles and moves well away from the ball. He does a good job of changing speeds and handles the ball with either hand." World Champion Targets Newman, Stone and Swanigan were all members of the USA Basketball Under‑17 squad, and played key roles in helping the team go 7‑0 and win the gold medal at the FIBA U17 World Championship, Aug. 8‑16 in Dubai. Newman and Stone have become good friends through USA Basketball, and they have considered attending the same col‑ lege. Duke landed center Jahlil Okafor, point guard Tyus Jones and small for‑ ward Justise Winslow in the class of 2014, aided in part by the three playing USA hoops together. "It's pretty unusual for these big‑time highly discussed package deals to actu‑ ally happen when kids don't play together at the same high school or AAU team," Bossi said. The 6‑3, 180‑pound Newman led the USA team with 14.9 points per game and added three assists from his point guard position. The 6‑10, 253‑pound Stone was right behind him at 13.4 points per The Wolfpacker 1-800-421-7751 Visit our Store! P.O.
