UNDER THE DOME Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Max Lachowecki — Soccer After playing a crucial defensive role in Notre Dame's title run last season, the senior defender played all 200 minutes in first two matches of 2014, including both overtimes of a score- less draw versus No. 9 Georgetown. That match may have been relatively quiet, but Lachowecki certainly did not have a quiet summer. He represented all Irish athletics at ESPN's ESPY Awards as the winner of the Capital One Cup in 2013-14. Tim Ball — Cross Country Notre Dame's top two runners are entrenched from the past few seasons, but after them much uncertainty reigns. Enter the junior Ball. Injuries have limited him throughout his career, especially in the spring when they have restricted him to one track and field race over the last two seasons. Finally in shape and ready to go, Ball is expected to be among Notre Dame's top five. Emma Reaney — Swimming Reaney competed at the Phillips 66 National Championships in California in mid-August. Her performances in the 100- and 200-meter breaststroke, fourth and sixth, respectively, were fast enough to earn Reaney a spot on the U.S. National Team for the second year in a row. Before Reaney solely focuses on her future international swimming career, she will look to de- fend her national championship in the 200-yard breaststroke. Danielle Aragon — Cross Country Aragon has displayed a penchant for middle distance races in the last two seasons, finishing second in both the indoor and outdoor Big East 800 meters her freshman year and add- ing a fourth-place finish in the 1,500 meters at the ACC Out- door Championships her sophomore year. Now the junior is expected to step up as a key contributor on the cross country team, where she has fared well already — finishing eighth at last year's National Catholic Championship 5K.
