There were a lot of pieces that had to
be put in place.
"When I got here in 2010, a lot of
people were chirping at me that he
was not qualified to be a Big Ten
coach. It's hilarious.
"There were people who pro-
claimed themselves as being brilliant
basketball people who were telling
me I should get rid of this coach be-
cause he couldn't put talent in the
NBA. Then they said his philosophy
of how he ran his offense — the fact
that he wasn't necessarily a coach
who believed in big, seven-foot post
players and muscle basketball, that
he had all these three-point shoot-
ers and was taking the big guy and
bringing him out from under the
basket — meant he couldn't be suc-
cessful.

MAJOR FACILITY PROJECTS
Schembechler Hall Renovation
The $9 million project, completed last spring, added 7,000 square feet to the facility and
renovated about 7,000 square feet of existing space. The football museum was com-
pletely redone, offices were added and the recruiting area expanded.
