Dr. J, many have been scrambling to
re-evaluate in light of the 31-0 loss at
Notre Dame. Michigan's best bet here is to
work toward the Reverse MSU Syndrome,
which would involve a huge disappoint-
ment early, then steady improvement over
the course of the season.

Dear The Wolverine:
Ever since Team 134 lost the Buffalo
Wild Wings Bowl, Wolverine football
fans have had to endure the uncom-
fortable, seemingly interminable off-
season, waiting with hope that Team
135 would reverse the Michigan pro-
gram's fortunes after two disappoint-
ing seasons in 2012 and 2013.
I resonate with those more rational
fans that are preaching patience, es-
pecially as we look back at the "big
picture" history of Wolverine football
since the 1950s.
As a small boy, I joined my father
rooting for Michigan when Bump El-
liott (1959-68) was the coach. With the
exception of 1964 and 1968, he never
won more than about half his games,
and rarely beat Ohio State or Michigan
State. Wolverine fans watched with
delight as Bo Schembechler (1969-89)
inherited talent from the 1968 team
and immediately initiated a standard
of winning almost every game.
However, between 1969 and 1975,
fans were still left wondering if Bo
would ever consistently win the sea-
son's final two games against Ohio
