is within sight. At Penn State,
it's time to rejoice. Or is it?
ames Franklin, for all of his energy
and enthusiasm, is a task-oriented
individual once football season ar-
rives.
He spent the &rst months of his
tenure at Penn State traversing the
East Coast via car, bus or plane
spreading the gospel of Nittany Lion football,
and his vision for the long-term success of
the program was painstakingly detailed in
an e'ort to rally support. Since early August,
however, that big-dreaming side of Franklin
has been locked away.
As tempting as the big picture may be to
look at, in the midst of a season that has
presented enormous challenges, the Nittany
Lions' new head coach has hammered home
the here and now to his football team. Be-
yond winning this week's game, the thinking
goes, focus more immediately on executing
this play, this rep, this test, or this presen-
tation in this moment. Don't look too far
ahead.
"We just want to come out every single
day and get better," Franklin said. "I don't
really look at it from the big picture. It's
