Patrick Chambers reflects
on his eorts to build a winner
and reshape the image
of Nittany Lion basketball
Penn State men's basketball
coach Patrick Chambers is
aiming to change more than
just the Nittany Lions' record.
He's also looking to change the
perceptions of a program that
has experienced only intermit-
tent success over the years.
The Nittany Lions went 38-58
in his -rst three seasons as head
coach, enduring their share of
hard luck and heartbreak. But
there have also been signs of
progress, both on the court and
on the recruiting
trail. This year's
team looks to
be the
strongest one
that Chambers
has assembled in his
tenure at Penn State, with All-
Big Ten senior guard D.J. New-
bill leading the way.
Are the Nittany Lions poised
to move up in the Big Ten
standings a/er -nishing 10th
last year with a 6-12 conference
record? That's one of the chal-
lenges before them.
The other challenge will be to
get Penn State fans on board.
Chambers has been looking to
build support for the program,
and that e.ort has continued as
well. He recently took the time
to discuss the upcoming season
with BWI's Nate Bauer. Here's
what he had to say.
