In addition to the 22 starters, 40 other Nittany Lions saw the field. That only bodes well for the future. BAD NEWS There wasn't much to com- plain about, but a late touchdown against the backup defense spoiled what could have been a shutout. THE TAKEAWAY Penn State did exactly what it was expected to do vs. the Minutemen – dismantle them from the first whistle to the last. Better yet, PSU walked away injury- free. It pushed the Nittany Lions ahead 48-0 to round out the quarter. A 77-yard UMass TD pass to open the fourth dinged an otherwise spotless Penn State defen- sive effort, but for the 99,155 fans in attendance, the injury-free, business-like 48-7 victory was all Steve Manuel
