Four-star cornerback Jordan Whitehead of Monaca, Pa., will take his last official visit this weekend when he travels to Uni- versity Park for the Penn State-North- western game. He's planning to make his commitment on Oct. 3, choosing from a list of schools that includes Penn State, Ohio State, Pitt and West Virginia. White- head has already visited the latter three. While much of the attention on Saturday will be on him, there will be other notable prospects on hand. One of those players is four-star tight end Devante Brooks. The top-ranked prospect in Washington, D.C., for the next cycle, Brooks is sitting out his junior sea- son aDer tearing his anterior cruciate lig- ament while camping at Ohio State over the summer. Penn State has yet to extend an offer, but it has shown consistent inter- est. Offensive coordinator John Donovan, who also coaches the Nittany Lions' tight ends, has spoken frequently with Brooks since Sept. 1. "I've been keeping in touch with Coach Donovan, for the most part," Brooks said. "We just talked [last Wednesday]. I was letting him know about me coming up. That was the main thing. He also contin- ues to tell me that I'm very high on his list. He seems to really like me, and I think he wants to offer, so hopefully with me going up there again, maybe that'll help that. "I know it's definitely a school I'd like to get an offer from." Before his injury in July, the 6-foot-5, 225-pounder from St. John's College High had earned 11 verbal scholarship offers, making Penn State one of the few regional schools that had yet to make a move. As he continues to heal from his knee operation, it will be interesting to see what the coach- ing staff decides to do, as Brooks has made it clear that Penn State is a program that he feels "comfortable" with. "I would say that I feel comfortable with Coach Donovan and everything going on up there," he said. "I really love the campus and the stadium there. They have great crowds all the time. It's a fun place to play. The campus and the environment, those are important, too. It does seem like a great place to be at. They have that col- lege-town feel. I like that. All the carry- out places, all the different places to eat – it feels like a real college town there. "It has a great family atmosphere, too. Everyone seems to really get along, so it seems like a great place to be at right now." ADer visiting Virginia Tech last weekend for the game against Georgia Tech, Brooks has one additional visit set, which is an Oct. 11 trip to Tennessee for its game against Chattanooga. Outside of that, he noted that there are a few programs that haven't offered yet but are showing steady interest. "North Carolina is a school I've been talking to a little bit," he said. "Also, the University of Kentucky and Michigan are a couple schools that have been in con- tact lately. Coach [Curt] Mallory has been talking to me quite a bit, so I think I have a chance to get an offer from them soon." Brooks is ranked 45th in the Class of 2016 Rivals100 and is the second-ranked tight end nationally. He will be joined on Satur- day by high school classmate Terrell Hall, who picked up an offer from Penn State on Sept. 22. The list of visitors this week includes two other uncommitted 2016 prospects: ath- lete Saivion Smith of St. Petersburg, Fla.; and quarterback Jake Zembiec of Rochester, N.Y. Several verbally committed members of Penn State's 2015 recruiting class will also be on hand. They include receiver Juwan Johnson of Glassboro, N.J.; defensive back/linebacker Jarvis Miller of West Suffield, Conn.; defensive back Ayron Monroe of Washington, D.C.; receiver Brandon Polk of Ashburn, Va.; and run- ning back Andre Robinson of Harrisburg, Pa.
