UNDER THE DOME Irish student-athletes excelling on the field and in the classroom Kaela Little — Soccer The sophomore goaltender earned ACC Player of the Week honors after recording two shutout victories on the road, including snapping No. 2 Virginia Tech's 10‑game winning streak. Little also held Wake Forest scoreless to bring her season record to 7‑2‑1. Her .829 save percentage was ranked second in the ACC and has kept Notre Dame in contention within the conference after opening the league slate with a 3‑2, double‑overtime loss to No. 8 North Carolina. Quentin Monaghan — Tennis The junior qualified for the main draw of the ITA Men's All‑ American Championships after topping Georgia's Nick Wood Oct. 1. The win moved Monaghan into the round of 64, where he beat No. 33 Roberto Quirez 6‑0, 7‑5. Notre Dame's top doubles pairing of senior Billy Pecor and junior Alex Lawson also made the main draw thanks to its No. 27 ranking. Nick Besler — Soccer The center midfielder notched the second marker of his career, and first of the season, in dramatic fashion when he headed in an overtime golden goal to give No. 1 Notre Dame a 1‑0 victory over VCU. The senior captain's noggin finished a sequence that began with junior midfielder Patrick Hodan's corner kick finding fresh‑ man forward Jeffrey Farina's head. The goal saved the Irish from a disappointing home draw, or even upset, it had largely dominated, including a 23‑8 shot advantage. Cory Sciupider — Golf Sciupider used two birdies on his final round to claim second place at the 2014 Fighting Irish Golf Classic Sept. 28‑30 at the War‑ ren Golf Course. The junior's two‑over‑par final round cost him a shot at medalist honors, finishing two strokes behind Ball State's McCormick Clouser. Sciupider led Notre Dame to a seventh‑place team finish, with freshman Thomas Steve placing eighth to help Sciupider pace the Irish. TOP OF THE CLASS
