If Penn State recruiting was a stock re- port, it has been trending downward re- cently. The biggest hit came Tuesday when four-star quarterback Brandon Wimbush from Jersey City, N.J., who committed to the Nittany Lions in May, announced via Twitter that he'll be attending Notre Dame in- stead of PSU. He took an official visit to South Bend, Ind., Oct. 7, and told Mike Farrell of Ri- vals.com that it was a "great experience." A few days aDer arriving home, the St. Peter's Prep star made his decision known. "It was the best decision I could've made for myself," Wimbush said. "It was in my best interests and it gives me the opportu- nity that I need for myself to succeed." Over the summer, Wimbush had also considered Stanford, despite a verbal commitment to Penn State. He visited Palo Alto, Calif., for camp and enjoyed his visit. However, his acceptance into the university was put on hold, as it was be- lieved that he was added to the academic waiting list. Soon aDer, he visited Penn State again and publicly insisted that he would stay committed. Since then, however, specula- tion has run rampant that Wimbush was continuing to look around. He did just that with an official visit to Notre Dame. "I think he went out there to clarify his decision and I think he did that," St. Peter's Prep head coach Rich Hansen told Jake Brown of IrishIllustrated.com. "This is his decision, which he feels is the right way to go and is the best fit for him in foot- ball and beyond that." McLEAN TO TAKE 5 OFFICIAL VISTS When news initially broke that Wimbush would be taking an official visit to Notre Dame, four-star defensive tackle Adam McLean from North Potomac, Md., who committed to Penn State during the 2014 Blue-White Game in April, followed it up with his own announcement. On Twitter McLean wrote, "I would just like to say that I will be taking all 5 of my official visits." While McLean still has not said which programs he will visit, it is likely that Ole Miss, Tennesse and Texas A&M are three of them. Michigan State is also likely to receive an official visit. McLean still maintains a commitment to Penn State and is expected to visit State College for the Ohio State game later this month. It's expected that he'll also make an official visit to PSU in December, but he said he wants to visit additional programs to assure himself that his original decision was the correct one. "It was a long thought process, months and months I've been sitting on this deci- sion," McLean told Rivals' Adam Fried- man. "I've asked the Penn State coaches, and of course they said that they don't want me to do this because they don't want to lose me. We've talked about this multiple times already. I don't want to go to Penn State and start thinking I should have gone somewhere else or I should have seen someplace else. I visited South Car- olina, Nebraska and Wake Forest, but I don't really have too much to compare Penn State to because I haven't been to that many places." WHITEHEAD TO PITT Four-star cornerback Jordan Whitehead of Monaca, Pa., took his final official visit to Penn State for its game vs. Northwest- ern Sept. 27. The following Friday he announced where he would attend college and con- tinue his football career. Since PSU received the most recent visit, it was speculated that the Nittany Lions would be a team to beat. However, when Whitehead made his announcement Oct. 3, it was Pittsburgh who earned his verbal commitment. Whitehead chose the Panthers over Ohio State and West Virginia, in addition to PSU.
