IN THE TRENCHES ANDREW OWENS T he 2014 season had the makings of one in which Notre Dame would not depend on any single receiver as its main option in virtually any situ- ation. Such a trend would have been a de- parture from the first four seasons of head coach Brian Kelly's Irish tenure, when Michael Floyd (2010-11), Tyler Eif- ert (2012) and TJ Jones (2013) developed a stranglehold as the go-to receiver. Sophomore wide receiver Will Fuller, however, seems determined to join that special group. With another pace-setting perfor- mance in the 50-43 win over North Carolina — he snagged seven passes for 133 yards and two touchdowns in the offensive onslaught — Fuller has separated himself from the receiving corps as senior quarterback Everett Golson's primary option, even if Kelly isn't ready to publicly anoint him as such. "Right now, he's emerging as that big- play guy," Kelly said. "We're looking toward him a lot more. But we have other pieces that really complement him The Go-To Guy Sophomore wide receiver Will Fuller continued to make the case that he is Notre Dame's top receiver with seven receptions for 133 yards and two touchdowns in the 50-43 win against North Carolina.
