Known as the "Cradle of Coaches" for produc‑ ing some of the most prominent football coaches in history — in‑ cluding Notre Dame's Ara Par‑ seghian (1964‑74) — Miami (Ohio) is currently un‑ der the direc‑ tion of first‑year head coach Chuck Martin, who worked in myriad roles for Brian Kelly at Notre Dame from 2010‑13. If all goes well for Martin, he will have likely moved on to a bigger program by 2017. On Oct. 4, Martin's RedHawks broke a 21‑game losing streak by defeating Massachusetts 42‑41. After completing the first three‑year Atlantic Coast Conference cycle of schedules from 2014‑16, Notre Dame is working on the next three‑year cycle from 2017‑19. The addition of Miami (Ohio) locks in 11 of a possible 12 regular‑season contests, most notably hosting Georgia Sept. 9 and traveling to Michi‑ gan State Sept. 23 in the first meeting of a 2016‑17 home‑and‑home series between the once tradi‑ tional rivals. The other eight games for 2017 feature the three permanent rivalry meetings against Navy, Stan‑ ford and USC, and the five ACC games that are still to be determined. The lone previous meeting between Notre Dame and Miami (Ohio) was a 46‑0 Irish victory at home on Nov. 13, 1909.
