32 Times in its history Notre Dame has started 6-0, with the first occurring in 1903. This also is the first season since 1903 that the Irish haven't had a game among their first six on the op- ponent's home field. 43 Points allowed by the Notre Dame defense against North Carolina, the most ever in a victory. The 43 points by the Tar Heels also matched the total by the four previous Irish opponents: Mich- igan (0), Purdue (14), Syracuse (15) and Stanford (14). 371 Yards of total offense by Notre Dame senior quarterback EVERETT GOL- SON, 300 passing and 71 rushing. It is the first time a Fighting Irish quarterback reached the 300-yard passing mark while also rushing for at least 70 yards. The flip side is three more Golson turnovers gave him nine the past three games (five interceptions and four fumbles). 458 Yards of total offense by North Carolina quarterback Marquise Williams — 303 passing, 132 rushing and 23 receiving. That didn't quite match the 502 by Michigan's Denard Robinson in 2010 (258 passing and 244 rushing) during the Wolverines' 28-24 win over the Irish, but it was an amazing effort in defeat. Williams is the first player to run (one), catch (one) and throw (two) a touch- down pass in the same game against Notre Dame since 1972 Heisman Trophy winner Johnny Rodgers did the same in Nebraska's 40-6 victory in the 1973 Orange Bowl. 1964 The most recent football regular- season game in which Notre Dame defeated the team of the reigning Heisman Trophy winner, Navy's Roger Staubach (40-0). It will have an opportunity to commemorate that Golden An- niversary this weekend against Jameis Winston and Florida State. Senior quarterback Everett Golson gained 371 total yards — 300 passing and 71 rushing — but his three turnovers (an interception and two fumbles) were costly, resulting in 21 points for the Tar Heels.
