BY TOM LOY For months, Notre Dame's plan was — no pun intended — to pass on a quarterback in the 2015 class and turn its attention to the class of 2016. That all changed when Brandon Wimbush, an elite signal-caller and Under Armour All-American, began showing interest in September. The Jersey City (N.J.) St. Peters Prep four-star quarterback committed to Penn State on May 6 and public percep- tion was that he was one of the Nittany Lions' top recruiters in the 2015 class. However, behind the scenes, Wimbush wasn't the rock solid pledge that many thought he was. Wimbush camped at Stanford in June and picked up an offer from the Cardi- nal. As a true student-athlete that cares about academics, Wimbush has primar- ily only looked at schools that are strong academically, as well as in football. After the offer, Stanford became a heavy favorite to flip the East Coast standout, but sources close to the situ- ation said that Wimbush was unable to get cleared to attend the school in Palo Alto, Calif., due to his transcripts and not having taken the correct classes for acceptance. Through all of this, Wim- bush maintained that he was firm in his pledge to Penn State. News broke Oct. 3 that Wimbush was taking an official visit to Notre Dame on Oct. 4 to watch the Irish take on Stan- ford. The Notre Dame coaching staff laid out the red carpet for Wimbush and his mother during their weekend in South Bend, and the strong-armed gunslinger became commitment No. 18 Notre Dame Flips 2015 Signal-Caller From Penn State COMMITMENT PROFILE BRANDON WIMBUSH 247Sports ranks Wimbush as the No. 82 overall recruit in the nation, the No. 5 dual-threat quar- terback in the land and the No. 3 prospect in New Jersey.
