rior to Notre Dame's exhibition
opener, Irish hockey head coach Jeff
Jackson said he would be just fine play‑
ing two goalies — sophomore Chad
Katunar and freshman Cal Petersen
— this season. Despite losing that exhi‑
bition 5‑4 to Waterloo, Jackson's stance
did not change. Until further notice, the
Irish will rely on the pair, one a righty
and one a lefty.
Jackson granted Katunar the start
against the Warriors Oct. 5 simply be‑
cause he was "the returning guy." Ka‑
tunar played well, if sparingly, in his 30
minutes. Few Waterloo chances found
their way to the sophomore, forcing
him to make only three saves. He gave
up one first‑period goal along the way.
"He did well," Jackson said, even
before watching the game's film. "He
didn't have a lot of work, but he made a
few saves. He had to make a few good
saves, but didn't have much chance on
that goal. I thought he did a good job
and made some good saves."
When Katunar skated off the ice, Pe‑
tersen came out for his first collegiate
appearance between the pipes. About

coach Jeff Jackson will continue to play him and sophomore Chad Katunar — until one separates himself
with his play.
