Hackenberg's record to this point in
his Penn State career seems to suggest as
much. He claimed Big Ten Freshman of
the Week honors five times last year,
posted record-setting passing numbers
and engineered a handful of winning
drives. Although the terms of the argu-
ment lend credence to the notion that
quarterbacks are overly praised for wins
and overly criticized for losses, Penn
State players appear to have already
made up their minds.
They're sticking with Hack.
"He's a phenomenal player. Probably
one of the best that people will see in a
long
time," Lucas said. "But he gets put
in some tough situations. Everybody
knows that.
"He just needs to know that we're al-
ways here for him. We're his brothers."
With six games remaining in a season
that everyone inside the Lasch Building
knew would be a daunting proposition,
all that's left now is to see how Hacken-
berg weathers the storm. The adversity
he's faced so far is only going to enhance
an already impressive resume. Assuming
he stays healthy, that's far from a bad
thing.
