hortly a,er he was hired in January to coach Penn State's
linebackers, Brent Pry was asked about the school's storied
linebacking past, which includes 14 *rst-team All-Americans,
three Bednarik Award winners, two Butkus Award winners,
three College Football Hall of Famers and one Pro Football
Hall of Famer, all of whom help account for the program's
nickname: Linebacker U.
"I hope to add to that storied past," Pry said, ticking o+ a list of
attributes like toughness and loyalty that he looks for in his players, at-
tributes that Penn State linebackers have come to personify through
the years.
"I feel extremely proud and extremely privileged to be in this position,"
he added. "I recognize that it's seen as a premier linebacker job in the
country. You can go into anybody's home, anybody's school, coast to
coast in this country, and be recognized as the linebackers coach at
Penn State. You have a chance to recruit coast to coast and go get the
best linebackers in the country."
Just prior to his arrival in University Park, Pry had turned down a head
coaching opportunity at Georgia Southern, which had won six Division
