PREP PROFILES Michigan already has a quarter- back committed in the 2016 class in Messiah deWeaver of Trotwood, Ohio, but when a talent like four- star K.J. Costello remains moder- ately interested, the staff pays at- tention. The junior signal-caller is con- sidered the No. 18 overall player in the country in his class and has a swollen offer list to back up his ranking. Rivals.com West recruit- ing analyst Adam Gorney has seen Costello in person multiple times and thinks that he has the potential to be truly special. "Costello has proven that he's one of the top quarterbacks in the 2016 class," Gorney said. "He has an exceptionally strong arm and is showing much better control. He's big, smart and can get the ball virtually wherever he wants it. Costello has also shown better touch on passes, an added bonus to his game." Gorney is confident when he says Stanford and USC make up Costel- lo's top two with Michigan in the third spot. He earned his U-M of- fer back in May and had plenty of good things to say about the Wol- verines. "The Michigan offer is very big," Costello said. "Everything I'm looking for in a college is at Michigan already. The academic side, the pro-style offense — there's no doubt I have a lot of interest in Michigan." Costello ended up visiting Ann Arbor in June for camp but hasn't been back this fall for a game visit, something he once said he would definitely do. With only two home games remaining, a trip from Cali- fornia to Ann Arbor to see Michi- gan play looks doubtful, and that could keep Michigan in the trail spot for the duration of Costello's recruitment. He doesn't have a set date on when he'll commit, but with a pretty solid top two or three, it likely won't be long. "We'll see where it goes," he said. "I'm still trying to feel everything out and see where I fit best. I'll probably wait through the season. I might try to make it out to one game at Stanford. We'll see where it goes. I'm just feeling it out and having a good time with the pro- cess." — Brandon Brown ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Santa Margarita Catholic High School Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.
