TREY BURKE HOPING TO AVOID SOPHOMORE SLUMP Many have wondered how Trey Burke will fare in year two coming off a very good rookie campaign in which he averaged 12.3 points per game. He's off to a good start in proving he's serious about taking the next step in his development. Burke averaged 16.5 points, 5.5 assists and 3.5 rebounds a game in leading Utah to two wins over Port‑ land in his first two preseason games. He was at his best in a 109‑105 win, scoring nine of his 22 points in the fourth quarter on an array of run‑ ners, drives, finishes and free throws. He iced it with a deep three‑pointer in the last minute. "The best thing so far about Trey is that he's defending," head coach Quin Snyder told The Salt Lake Tri- bune. "That's starting to become who he is, and we're pleased about that. He's getting people involved, and he's playing unselfish basketball. He's realizing when to move the ball and when to look for his offense, and we need that from him." Burke scored 16 points in a 102‑89 win over the Los Angeles Clippers Oct. 13 and 21 in a 101‑97 loss to the Clippers Oct. 17.
