116 ■ THE WOLFPACKER BY JACEY ZEMBAL N C State is rewriting the school record books and accomplishing goals that last occurred decades ago. The Wolfpack finished 13th at the NCAA Championships, which was the best showing since the 1978-79 team placed 11th. The Pack lost key swimmers such as Bar- rett Miesfeld, Ian Bishop, Jonathan Boffa and Matt Thomas, who all competed in vari- ous relays at the NCAA Championships. Miesfeld also earned honorable mention All- America honors in the 100-yard butterfly. Still, NC State returns seven different All- ACC swimmers from last year. Seniors Da- vid Williams and Stephen Coetzer, juniors Simonas Bilis, Christian McCurdy and Aus- tin Snyder, and sophomores Soren Dahl and Andreas Schiellerup, both from Denmark, help create the nucleus. Williams, Coetzer, Bilis, McCurdy and Schiellerup earned All-America recognition at the NCAA Championships. Bilis, Williams and Schiellerup return from last year's third-place 400 freestyle re- lay team (2:49.50), which earned first-team All-America accolades. Boffa was the fourth member of the impressive quartet. McCurdy received first-team All-America recognition after finishing fourth in the 200 butterfly (1:42.18) at the NCAA Champi- onships, and the Wolfpack also took home All-America honors after finishing eighth in the 800 freestyle relay (6:18.40) and 10th in the 400 medley relay (3:07.38). Bilis and Williams are back from the 800 freestyle relay, and Schiellerup is back from the 400 medley relay squad. "McCurdy is more the versatile guy for us, who can swim multiple events," head coach Braden Holloway said. "We can move around in multiple ways depending on who we are going against. "We have great firepower coming back with David Williams being a big freestyle sprinter in the country."
