54 ■ THE WOLFPACKER Recruiting four-year college transfers or junior college transfers has become a crucial tool in assembling NC State's men's basket- ball roster. The current team features senior shoot- ing guard Desmond Lee, who came from New Mexico Junior College; fifth-year senior small forward Ralston Turner, who transferred in from LSU; and redshirt junior combo guard Trevor Lacey, who transferred from Alabama and will make his Wolfpack debut this season. Waiting in the wings, literally and figura- tively, is 6-4, 190-pound Terry Henderson, who elected to leave West Virginia with two years of eligibility remaining. Henderson will follow the same path as Turner and Lacey and sit out this season. He will look to improve his game on the scout team. "Everything has been great and workouts have been great," Henderson said. "I'm just focusing on getting better. "I'm trying not to think about it [sitting out the year], but I'm going into every day work- ing hard and staying focused. I have great teammates to keep me focused." Turner and Lee will both exhaust their eli- gibility after this season, freeing up potential playing time for Henderson. "The main thing for me is to just get bet- ter and learn the offense as much as I can," Henderson said. "When it is time for me to play, I'll be competitive out there on the floor and look like I've been here for a couple of years." Henderson and freshmen Abdul-Malik Abu, Caleb Martin and Cody Martin will help liven up the court in the future. All four are pretty accomplished dunkers, though Abu was quick to point out he defeated Henderson in a game of dunk HORSE this fall. Hender- son offered up a valid reason for the defeat. "There was a dunk-off at an open gym, but it wasn't anything too serious," Henderson said. "He got me. He jumped off one foot and I'm not a one-foot jumper. I'm a two feet kind of dunker. I got him on two feet." Henderson knows his job for the time be- ing is to keep pushing the various guards in practice. "Every practice we have is going to get more competitive," Henderson said. "I'm the type of guy that doesn't like to lose. I know the twins don't like to lose. All the guards — Trevor, Des, Cat [Barber], Ralston — we are going to make it more competitive this year. This will only help us get better in the long run, and we definitely will have the best guards in the ACC." Henderson was a local standout at Raleigh Neuse Christian Academy, and picked up steam in recruiting the summer going into his senior year. He shared the scoring load with former NCSU star small forward T.J. Warren on the Garner Road traveling team. Henderson ended up picking West Virginia over Richmond, Maryland, Georgia, Virginia Tech, George Mason, Miami and Boston Col- WOLFPACK BASKETBALL WVU Transfer Terry Henderson Plans To Make Most Of Next Year Henderson, a local standout at Raleigh Neuse Christian Academy, averaged 9.8 points and 2.7 rebounds while playing 23.4 minutes per game in two seasons at West Virginia.
