NOVEMBER 2014 ■ 59 WOLFPACK BASKETBALL PREVIEW ■ BeeJay Anya 21 • PF/C So • Washington, D.C. • 6-9 • 295 Analysis: Anya worked hard in the offseason to drop around 50 pounds, which should help him become a more prominent contributor this season. Last year, the long-armed Anya (7-9 wing span) showed flashes of being an effective shot blocker and rebounder who can finish around the rim offensively. The lost weight should allow him to be more mobile and play for longer stretches. Career Highlights: Played in 33 games and was a key reserve for much of his freshman season … Ranked ninth in the ACC with an average of 1.8 blocks per game and also led the team in total blocks (46) … Blocked a personal-best five shots against ECU and had three in the opening-round win over Xavier in the NCAA Tournament … Made 58.7 percent of his shots and had a career-high 10 points against UNC … Was rated by Rivals. com as the No. 5 center and No. 58 overall player in the class of 2013 … Three-year starter for famed DeMatha Catholic in Hyattsville, Md., and two-time All-Metropolitan selection by The Washington Post … Averaged 13.3 points, 10.6 rebounds and 3.8 blocks while shooting 71.0 percent from the floor as a senior, after averaging 13.3 points, 10.5 rebounds and a school-record 6.8 blocks per game during his junior campaign. Coach's Corner: "He's done a really nice job. He's lost in between 50 or 60 pounds. What I have told BeeJay is that is only step one.
