IRISH IN THE PROS BY ANDREW OWENS W hen Golden Tate signed with the Detroit Lions during the offseason following a Super Bowl win with the Seattle Seahawks, the main question was whether there were enough foot- balls to go around for Tate and All-Pro wide receiver Calvin Johnson. Johnson had developed a reputa- tion as the NFL's top receiver with four straight 1,000-yard seasons and a league-best 50 touchdown receptions over the last five seasons. With Johnson sidelined due to injury in three of the team's first eight games, the Lions now have a No. 2 option to shoulder the load, a luxury it did not possess in recent seasons. Tate's pro- duction without Johnson in the lineup NFL Midseason Report Tate, a former Irish wide receiver, has fit in perfectly with the Detroit Lions after helping the Seattle Seahawks win the Super Bowl last season.
