FOOTBALL RECRUITING
BY TOM LOY
T
he Sept. 6 matchup between Notre
Dame and Michigan was the pre-
mier recruiting weekend of the season
for the Irish. U.S. Army All-Americans
such as five-star defensive end Porter
Gustin and four-star tight end Aliz'e
Jones made the trip, along with Under
Armour All-American and four-star
running back Soso Jamabo.
The Oct. 4 game against Stanford was
another big weekend in Irish recruit-
ing. That was the visit that sealed the
deal with four-star quarterback Bran-
don Wimbush and got him to flip his
commitment from Penn State to Notre
Dame. Top four-star targets in safety
Frank Buncom IV and wide receiver
Equanimeous St. Brown were also on
campus. The Irish staff also secured vis-
its from four-star defensive end Mekhi
Brown, an Alabama commit, and four-
star safety Calvin Brewton, a Florida
State commit.
Early in the season it didn't seem like
the Nov. 22 matchup between Notre
Dame and Louisville would be on par
with those aforementioned star-stud-
ded Saturdays, but that is no longer the
