PREP PROFILES Michigan has a quarterback com- mitment in the 2016 class in Trot- wood (Ohio) Madison four-star Messiah deWeaver. If the Wolver- ines would like to add some va- riety to the position, the nation's top dual-threat passer could be an option. Shreveport (La.) Calvary Acad- emy four-star Shea Patterson is the nation's No. 40 overall prospect a n d t h e t h i rd - best 2016 player i n L o u i s i a n a , according to Ri- vals.com. While he now plays his high school ball in the Bayou State, Pat- terson and his family lived in the Toledo area until he was in his mid- dle school years, and his paternal grandfather, George, even suited up for the Detroit Pistons in the 1960s. The family has long looked at Michigan as an ideal college foot- ball program. "115,000 fans is just crazy," said his father, Sean Patterson. "It is a pretty festive place, and it's hard not to enjoy that atmosphere. The university puts a lot into the game- day experience with the history and all that goes into Michigan foot- ball." Patterson has already had plenty of twists and turns in his recruit- ment. He was an early commitment to the University of Arizona, where his older brother, Sean Jr., was a quality control assistant. Sean Jr. has been hired by the home-state LSU Tigers, though, and that could impact the younger brother 's re- cruitment. "He's going to play a big role on where I go," Patterson said. "You never know. It's his profession, but if he ends up at a Division II school at a posi- tion job, I'm defi- nitely not going to go there. At the end of the day, we're going to do what's best for both of us." Patterson picked up a Wolverines offer in February and has remained interested in the Maize and Blue ever since. The 6-2, 191-pounder has plenty of ability. "Patterson brings a lot of skill to the table," Rivals.com recruiting analyst Jason Howell said. "He is a refined passer who can make all the throws, and he also has the ability to make plays with his legs. He has been very well-schooled as a quar- terback from a young age, and his work is showing." If the Wolverines stay in strong pursuit, he could bring those tal- ents to Ann Arbor. — Tim Sullivan Louisiana Passer Has Michigan Connections ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Calvary Academy Shreveport, La.
