In a move every bit as surprising as his commitment, Rivals250 defensive end Adam McLean decommitted from Penn State via Twitter on Tuesday night. The North Potomac (Md.) Quince Orchard star was one of the highest-rated commit- ments for the Nittany Lions. At 6-foot-1, 282 pounds, McLean was one of Penn State's most coveted recruits because of his high ceiling on the field and his ability to help recruit a number of play- ers to Happy Valley. The four-star prospect was heavily involved in the re- cruitment of Jonathan Holland, Ayron Monroe and a few other recruits in Penn State's class. McLean, who sustained a serious knee injury late in the season, was considering a number of schools early in his recruit- ment and had stated just days before com- mitting to Penn State that he was not close to committing anywhere. Michigan State, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Nebraska and Pitts- burgh were all seriously involved in McLean's recruitment in the spring. In April, he committed to Penn State, but recently started to talk to other schools. McLean has visits scheduled to Washing- ton State on Dec. 5, Ole Miss on Jan. 16 and Tennessee on Jan. 30. He has scheduled an official visit to Penn State on Jan. 23, but it remains to be seen if that visit remains in the books. McLean has also been in touch with Texas, Texas A&M and a few other schools. Look for Ohio State to make another push with McLean. He is very close with Matthew Burrell Jr., who committed to Ohio State on Monday. McLean had been trying to recruit Burrell to Penn State.
