WOMEN'S BASKEBALL 54th consecutive regular-season vic- tory and 27th straight on the road, both of which lead the nation after No. 1 Connecticut lost in overtime at No. 6 Stanford Nov. 17. Sophomore point guard Lindsay Allen, the player McGraw pegged as becoming the vocal team leader this season, was the steadying hand ver- sus the Spartans. In 38 minutes, Al- len had no turnovers and five assists while adding nine rebounds to com- pensate for the absence of the posts. She also chipped in 14 points on an assortment of jumpers and drives. "Last year we did a pretty good job taking care of the ball," McGraw fore- warned in October. "This year, turn- overs may be a problem for us." In the opener versus UMass Low- ell, the Irish had 18 turnovers, which eclipsed the base line of 15 McGraw grudgingly permits. So to have only six versus Michigan State was out- standing. Many more challenging non-con- ference games await the Irish in the next month, highlighted by hosting Connecticut Dec. 6. During that time, the Irish will seek their team identity, have the youngsters find their role and create a team chemistry and cohesion — with some lumps likely to be mixed in for learning purposes. "We just don't know what is going to happen late in the game when ad- versity hits, when we get down, when we get into foul trouble, when things start to spiral in the wrong direction," McGraw said. "That's something I'm really anxious to see — how we're go- ing to handle that sort of adversity." The victory at Michigan State pro- vided some early insight. ✦ 2014-15 NOTRE DAME WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULE Date Opponent (TV) Result/Time (ET) Nov. 14 UMass Lowell W, 105-51 Nov. 19 at Michigan State W, 71-63 Nov. 21 Chattanooga W, 88-53 Nov. 23 Holy Cross* 5 p.m. Nov. 24 Harvard* 6 p.m. Nov. 25 Quinnipiac* 6 p.m. Nov. 30 vs. Kansas^ (ESPN3) 1 p.m. Dec. 3 vs. Maryland@ (ESPN3) 7 p.m. Dec. 6 Connecticut!
