BY DOUGLAS FARMER T orii Hunter Sr. teared up the night his Detroit Tigers dropped a crucial divisional game to the Minnesota Twins Sept. 27. The 12‑3 defeat endangered the Tigers' divisional title — the Kansas City Royals hovered a game behind De‑ troit in the American League Central race with only one game remaining. His 1‑for‑4 performance didn't help the Tigers' cause much that Saturday, but the nine‑time Gold Glove winner had a different reason entirely for the waterworks. H i s s o n a n d n a m e s a k e To r i i Hunter Jr. not only saw his first col‑ legiate action that evening and got both his first career carry and catch, but the Irish sophomore wide receiver also scored a touchdown late in Notre Dame's 31‑15 victory over Syracuse.
