FOOTBALL RECRUITING BY TOM LOY B ringing in a top quarterback in each recruiting cycle has been a top pri- ority for Irish head coach Brian Kelly, and that trend will likely continue with the class of 2016. In 2011, Kelly — in his staff's first full recruiting cycle at Notre Dame — signed Everett Golson, a four-star quar- terback and the No. 227 overall player in the nation according to 247Sports. He followed that up in 2012 by bring- ing in 247Sports' No. 1 pro-style quar- terback and No. 24 overall prospect in the land, five-star Gunner Kiel, who has since transferred from the program and is currently playing at the Univer- sity of Cincinnati. In 2013, Kelly signed U.S. Army All-American and 247Sports' No. 10 dual-threat signal-caller Malik Zaire, who serves as the backup to Golson this year. Another four-star signal-caller Irish Likely To Land Another Top QB In 2016 Class Notre Dame is in the mix for Jowan Pass of Columbus (Ga.) Carver — the No. 1 dual-threat quarterback and No. 13 overall prospect in the junior class according to 247Sports — along with Alabama, North Carolina, Louisville and Mississippi State.
