PREP PROFILES There isn't much Egg Harbor City (N.J.) Cedar Creek junior Ahmir Mitchell can't do. His skills with the ball in his hands have resulted in Rivals.com tabbing him as the No. 8 wide receiver and No. 49 overall player in the country, and he's racked up double-digit offers accordingly. Florida State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, South Caro- lina and Virginia Tech are just a few of the schools that have already given him the op- portunity to catch passes at the next level. Michigan, however, sees him on the other side of the ball. "A lot of schools see me more on the offensive side of the ball because of my playmaking ability, and my size and my speed that I can use at the wide receiver position," Mitchell said. "With Michigan, they see my size and with great speed also, they like my ball instincts, they see me more as a safety. "Wherever I am, I'm going to try to make plays." The 6-2, 197-pounder has also taken note of Michigan's recent recruiting prowess in the Garden State. Five- star defensive back Jabrill Peppers signed with U-M in 2014 (though he missed the season due to injury), and the Maize and Blue have kept up their pursuit of Jersey's best, offering not only Mitchell, but fellow standout Ka- reem Walker, a five-star tailback from DePaul Catholic in Wayne. "I try not to take that into consid- eration about other players or any- thing," Mitchell said. "… It's more important to make sure I'll fit in. I'm blessed to have Michigan looking at me, and with Jabrill being there and Michigan re- cruiting Kareem really hard, it would be cool to play with them because they're such good play- ers But I'm more worried with just how I'll fit in per- sonally." Although Michigan's 2014 season didn't go as planned, with a 5-7 re- cord that saw the dismissal of head coach Brady Hoke, Mitchell still plans to consider U-M. It just may increase his interest in the Wolverines. "They might be struggling now, but that's not normal," Mitchell said. "Schools always build and rebuild. If a school is struggling that might actu- ally be in favor to me because I could go in and play early to try to help. "They are right up there with the rest of the schools that have offered me, and I'm very interested in Michi- gan." — Tim Sullivan Michigan Likes Elite Receiver As A Safety ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ ✪ Cedar Creek High School Egg Harbor City, N.J.
