appearances in the Rose Bowl,
the game that introduced the
now-traditional postseason
hoopla to college football in 1902,
and that's why the induction of
Ki-Jana Carter into the Rose Bowl
Hall of Fame this year is so signi*cant.
No one understands the magnitude of his
selection more than Carter.
"I was shocked when told I was going
to be in the Rose Bowl Hall of Fame because
of what the Rose Bowl has meant through-
out its history," Carter said in a recent
telephone interview from Florida, where
he now lives. "It was unexpected, but I
was very happy. When you grow up in
Big Ten country as I did [in Columbus,
Ohio], the Rose Bowl is everything."
