Her squads were one of eight in the nation to make the NCAA Tournament 15 straight years from 1992-06, but they made it only twice the last eight. "I thank God for the opportunities I've had to coach at Notre Dame over Irish Roundup HOCKEY (8-8-2, 4-2-2 HOCKEY EAST) Notre Dame was swept in its annual Shillelagh Tournament Nov. 28-29, first falling to defending na- tional champion Union 3-2 in overtime before being wiped off the ice by Ohio State 5-1 the next day. The Irish recovered with a weekend road sweep, 7-5 and 4-0, of Massachusetts Dec. 5-6. MEN'S SOCCER (12-5-4, 6-1-1 ACC) After topping Ohio State in their NCAA Tournament opener, the Irish fell to conference foe Virginia 1-0 in the round of 16. Top-seeded Notre Dame managed only two shots on goal, though it did outshoot the Cavaliers 11-8. Virginia's Nicko Corriveau scored the game-winner in the 82nd minute, ending Irish hopes of a repeat national championship. The Cavaliers went on to win the national crown. MEN'S SWIMMING Notre Dame fell by the slimmest of margins to host Iowa in the Hawkeye Invitational Dec. 5-7, losing 918.5-918. Fourteen Irish swimmers recorded 'B' cut finishes, bettering their chances at NCAA berths. WOMEN'S SWIMMING Seven Irish swimmers recorded 13 'B' cut finishes in the Texas Invitational the Dec. 4-6, while the Notre Dame divers swept the three-meter dive in the Hawkeye Invitational Dec. 5-7. Despite sending only the divers to Iowa, Notre Dame finished fifth in the meet. TRACK & FIELD Notre Dame won 22 of 30 events in its first meet of the year, the annual Blue & Gold Invitational Dec. 5. The Irish women swept the top three spots in the mile, led by freshman Celena Guerrero's 5:07.90. The Notre Dame men mirrored that feat by crossing the finish line first, second and third in the 800-me- ter run, with sophomore Patrick O'Connell claiming first in 1:52.98. VOLLEYBALL (6-23, 3-15 ACC) The Irish season ended with a 3-0 loss to Pittsburgh Nov. 28, Notre Dame's fifth consecutive loss and ninth in 10 matches.
