INSIDE MICHIGAN ATHLETICS As a freshman last season, Talia Chi- arelli hit 34 of 34 routines on the Big Ten champion Michigan women's gymnastic team. The Boston native also received the U-M Athletic Aca- demic Achievement award. Nickname: "It's just Tal, short for my first name." Favorite restaurant in Ann Arbor: "Sava's for sure." Best meal she can cook by herself: "I'd say grilled chicken and sautéed zucchini." Sports she plays besides gymnas- tics: "I used to play soccer, and I used to do ballet, too." Hobbies: "I like to bake, I like to shop. I like to hang out with my friends when I can. We don't really have a lot of free time." Favorite TV show: "'Grey's Anat- omy.'" Favorite movie: "' Wolf of Wall Street.' I think it's hilarious." Dream vacation: "Italy." Favo r i t e p ro fe s s i o n a l s p o r t s venue she's been to: "I competed at The O2 Arena in London where the Olympics were held. It was awesome." Favorite professional athlete: "I like Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh, the volleyball players. No real reason, I just like them." Role model: "Probably my mom, Alicia." Why she chose gymnastics over soccer: "I feel like every kid played soccer, so that was just an automatic thing. At some point, I had to choose between soccer and gymnastics be- cause gymnastics was taking up too much time. I was always doing cart- wheels and flips on the soccer field when the ball was at the other end so it was a natural choice." What she hopes to do after gym- nastics at Michigan: "I want to go to law school. Gymnastics will be over for me after Michigan; this is like the end of the road." Her overall U-M experience: "Over- all it's been fantastic. I don't think there's any other place where you can get the perfect balance of academics and athletics. The whole family feel that the whole university has is great. It's just been great." — Brandon Brown Getting To Know Sophomore Women's Gymnast Talia Chiarelli Chiarelli hopes to go to law school when her gymnastics career is over.
