run in his ;nal at-bat at Yankee Stadium.
Jeter's hit was a single, not a home run,
but it got the job done. Same with Ficken's
kick. It was only a PAT, but it brought a
momentous end to his career, and to Penn
State's season.
"I couldn't have written any better of a
way to go out," Ficken said. "This team
has worked so hard, fought through so
much. To say that we made it to a bowl
;rst o= and then we won the bowl, it's
pretty cool."
Ficken ended his senior season with 24
;eld goals in 29 attempts, and he also hit
all 28 of his PATs. For his career, he made
54 of 75 ;eld goal attempts and missed
only three extra-point tries. He ranks
fourth all-time at Penn State with 271 ca-
reer points.
Throughout his ;rst year at Penn State,
head coach James Franklin praised Ficken
as one of the team's most incult catch, but he
had every opportunity to make it and
simply could not. The same thing hap-
pened to Hamilton on the Lions' next
possession.
BEST SACK Tyler Murphy faked the
hando= to Jon Hilliman, and Jordan Lu-
cas almost bit, but instead stayed with
the senior quarterback and pulled him
down for a 6-yard loss to back the Ea-
gles up near their own end zone midway
through the fourth quarter.
BEST HIT Boston College defensive
tackle Truman Gutapfel absolutely un-
loaded on a spinning Hamilton at the
49-yard line late in the ;rst quarter,
