he Lady Lions are fed up, as you would expect. They are getting tired of all the turnovers, the missed shots, the defensive lapses, the overall inconsistency. Mostly, they're fed up with all the losses. Against visiting Rutgers on Jan. 10, Penn State committed 38 turnovers – a 5gure that coach Coquese Washington called "probably insurmountable" – in a 71-51 loss to the No. 24 Scarlet Knights. It was the team's 13th loss of the season, and it was followed by two more: a 73-45 setback at Nebraska on Jan. 15 and a 69- 60 loss at Ohio State three days later. Heading into a home matchup against In- diana on Jan. 22, the Lady Lions had lost eight in a row, including their 5rst seven Big Ten games. And just as unsightly as the string of L's in the record book were the scores themselves. Of those seven Big Ten losses, only one – the game against Ohio State – was decided by fewer than 15 points. The Lady Lions' average margin of defeat in conference play was 21.7 points. None of which is sitting well with Penn State's players. "I think they are ticked o6 because they lost and they're competitors," Washington said following the loss to the Scarlet Knights. "They played hard and they com- peted against people they know. They know these kids. They compete in AAU and they are familiar with each other. So they are ticked o6. "We expected to win," she continued. "We came into this game expecting to win, and when your expectation is to win and you don't, you're not happy. So yeah, we are ticked o6. We are disappointed. We feel like we let one slip away.
