UNDER THE DOME Aaron Wellman Joins Strength Staff Notre Dame's strength and conditioning staff in football underwent some change in personnel during the month of January. Former Fighting assistant director of strength and conditioning Dave Andrews was hired by new Pitt head coach Pat Narduzzi as the director of the Panthers' strength and condition- ing program. Andrews has been replaced by Aaron Wellman, who headed up the strength and conditioning program for recently fired Michigan head coach Brady Hoke. Wellman also was with Hoke at San Diego State (2009-10) and Ball State (2004-08). A graduate of Manchester (Indi- ana) College, where he played safety, the Ligonier, Ind., native Wellman's 19-year career in strength and condi- tioning began in 1996 at Indiana Uni- versity, where he earned his master's degree. "I've known Aaron for a long time and we've competed against each other numerous times," Fighting Irish director of football strength and conditioning Paul Longo said."We jumped at the chance to add him to our staff. "Anytime you have a chance to add a proven veteran like Aaron to your staff, it's definitely going to improve the program." Wellman is a registered master strength and conditioning coach by the Col- legiate Strength and Conditioning Coaches Association (CSCCA), a certified strength and conditioning specialist and personal trainer by the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) and a specialist in perfor- mance nutrition by the International Sports Sciences Association (ISSA). — Lou Somogyi Aaron Wellman joined Notre Dame's strength and conditioning staff as an assistant this offseason after previously serving Brady Hoke's staff at Michigan.
