2015 RECRUITING ISSUE made the decision that he did. He signed with Notre Dame over Miami because he thought the Irish could take him to the next level. The decision was far from easy. That's because Williams was never supposed to leave home. He was sup- posed to stay close to mom. "It was his choice," his mother Cheryl said looking back on the events leading up to National Signing Day. "He told me one night that Notre Dame is where he wanted to go to school, and I said alright. I wasn't go- ing to hold him back from that." But she could have, and she almost did. When Williams was in eighth grade, his life was turned upside down. Cheryl, who suffers from myasthe- nia gravis, unexpectedly went into a coma one morning. She was hospital- ized for three months due to the auto- immune disorder that causes weakness and rapid fatigue, and at one point it looked like she might never wake up.
