aged 10.5 points and 7.0 rebounds per contest while buying into her role and becoming a consistent complemen- tary player to enhance the rest of the lineup. Rotating with her has been consis- tently improving 6-2 freshman Kath- ryn Westbeld, who averaged 11.2 points in the five games prior to the Feb. 16 meeting with Duke. • Inside/Outside Punch — The perimeter and post tandem of Loyd and 6-3 freshman Brianna Turner can match any in the country. Loyd domi- nated with 34 points in the win over Tennessee, and her scoring average of 20.7 points per game entering mid- February was on pace to break Ka- tryna Gaither 's single-season school- record of 20.4 set during Notre Dame's first run to the Final Four in 1996-97. Four days earlier at North Carolina, Turner tallied 29 points to go with 18 rebounds. When Loyd was off on Feb. 4 against Virginia, the Irish kept feeding the post and Turner scored 26 points while also pulling in 13 boards. "She is so unselfish that she doesn't try to look for herself, so we're really trying to look for her, find some mis- matches," McGraw said of Turner. "Our game plan has shifted to where we look to go inside a lot more than we did at the beginning of the year." Particularly encouraging to McGraw is how the rest of the lineup, especially sophomore point guard Lindsay Allen, is gradually developing a cohesion to not put too much of the scoring bur- den on Loyd. "We need to see that more often — Jewell not carrying us," McGraw said. • Improving Defense — On- slaughts on offense have highlighted No. 4 Notre Dame's season most of 2014-15 NOTRE DAME WOMEN'S BASKETBALL SCHEDULE Date Opponent (TV) Result/Time (ET) Nov. 14 UMass Lowell W, 105-51 Nov. 19 at Michigan State W, 71-63 Nov. 21 Chattanooga W, 88-53 Nov. 23 Holy Cross# W, 104-29 Nov. 24 Harvard# W, 97-43 Nov. 25 Quinnipiac# W, 112-52 Nov. 30 vs. Kansas@ W, 89-47 Dec. 3 vs. Maryland& W, 92-72 Dec. 6 Connecticut!
