2015 RECRUITING ISSUE BY ANDREW OWENS Playing for one of the most nation- ally recognized programs in the football hotbed of Texas while hauling in passes from one of the country's most coveted high school quarterbacks would make it nearly impossible to fly under the radar, but Jalen Guyton might have done just that. As a wide receiver on Allen (Texas) High School's 16-0 state championship squad, Guyton caught 82 passes for 1,770 yards and 22 touchdowns in his final campaign before heading to Notre Dame. He has blazing speed with a 4.4 40-yard dash time. Regardless, he's not ranked among the top 50 players in Texas or the top 50 wide receivers in the nation by any re- cruiting network. Many in the industry consider him to be one of the most un- derrated prospects from the 2015 class, but one person isn't too concerned about it. "Not to say anything bad, but I could care less about the rankings," the three- star said. "The only reason I know what star I was is because my parents were into that stuff at one point. I haven't been checking." Guyton, who also stars in track at Al- len High School, committed to Notre Dame last March after a campus visit showed him the value of leaving Texas for South Bend. "The atmosphere there sold me," he said. "I did come home and ponder the decision and let it sit and rest on my mind. After a while it felt like that's where I was headed. I went along with it and haven't regretted it yet. "Naturally, following any visit you're hyped up on that school, and I think that's a lot of what it was. The visit set Notre Dame apart and leaving it felt like there was something more than just the hype about it. "I kept thinking about it, and after a while it felt like the place for me and the place I could grow as a person even outside of football." Jalen Guyton undeterred By national rankinGs Guyton hauled in 82 receptions for 1,770 yards (21.6 yards per catch) and 22 touchdowns to help Allen High to the Texas 6A state title during his senior campaign.
