WHAT HE DID Coming o< a junior season in which he
rushed for more than 1,500 yards, Barkley dazzled at The
Opening, a skills camp held last summer at Nike headquar-
ters in Oregon. He ;nished sixth among running backs in the
SPARQ skills competition, and his performance that day
;rmly established him as one of the nation's elite running
backs. It also raised expectations heading into his ;nal high
school season. And when that season got under way a few
months later, well, let's just say he did not disappoint. As a
senior, Barkley rushed for 1,851 yards on 216 carries (8.6
yards per carry) and 24 touchdowns. He led Whitehall High
to an 8-3 record and in the process became the school's all-
time leading rusher.
WHAT HE WON In addition to receiving a four-star ranking,
Barkley is considered by Rivals.com to be the No. 2 prospect
in Pennsylvania and the No. 117 prospect nationally, as well
as the nation's No. 11 running back. He also received All-
