There's the maneuvering:
"Like in karate, you teach him
how to punch through people,"
Marvin said. "Same thing with
football. We talk about lowering
the shoulder pads and driving
through them. You don't stop."
Then there are attributes such
as balance, :exibility, quick-
ness, discipline and, most im-
portant, Jarvis said, physical
and mental toughness.
"From karate at a young age to
playing a full-contact sport like
football, it was an easy transi-
tion for me," Jarvis said. "All
those things have helped out.
I've been hit hard, knocked out
in karate."
Competing all over the coun-
try and overseas has helped
Miller mature, his father said.
He's traveled, he's seen other
cultures and knows what it's like
to face the best a sport has to
o;er.
